The night I discovered Tweet a London Cab

So there I was, I had just arrvied back to Euston Station via an excellent train ride from our friends at Virgin from Milton Keynes. I had given my talk – Why is Twitter the business, to the members of Mensa, together with some of the board of management. All was fab….

Then as I approach the Northen line to go to High Barnet, disaster. Someone had gone under a train, and there were no trains running to High Barnet. There was also engineering works on the other side of the line, so no trains either to Edgware… Chaos ensued…

I left the station, and looked for the replacement bus to Barnet – sorry mate.. only replacement bus was to Golders Green was what I was told, by the member of staff…But I want to go to High Barnet… Sorry.. Golders Green only.

Ok, so I left Euston Station, and immediately fired up my blackberry,  and got straight onto Twitter. Firstly, I mentioned, that there were no cabs, taxi’s minicabs any where near the station, and zillions of people all trying to get on the bus…So I started to walk, as I did so the Tweets started to come back.. Firstly from Nicola Latham aka @latham17  and from Gemma Went aka @gemmawent they both suggested that I contact @tweetalondoncab. Other people suggested other things, such as drop off at Costas for a few latte’s from @katiemillman.

So I immediately contacted @tweetalondoncab, as I walked past Chalk Farm station, I got a reply.. They told me to direct message them with my details. Being a guy, I had not read any of the instructions. So I did. I asked them If I could get a cab from Golders Green Station, which I would arrive at in approx 20 mins, as I was now on a replacement bus.

They replied, very quickly telling me, that they would do their best. They also told me that all the cabs, were proper black cabs, with fully licensed peeps, and that the journey was charged on the traditional meter – excellent.

When I got to Golders Green Station, I left the replacement bus, and walked over the road. Two minutes later, my mobile rang.. Hello, Is that Mark? Yes I replied.. its the cabby..Where are you? I explained where I was.. a few minutes later, and I was in the back of the cab, on my way home to Barnet.

I should also point out that the person who was coordinating all this activity, and who was mesaging me to see how I was getting on etc.. was top guy Richard aka @cabbiescapital

What did I really like about this service?

I always admire people that try something new. This service is run by cabbies, and they all help and support each other. I needed a service, and they did their best to help me, which they did, they repsonded to all my messages, and got me home, which to me was a great result.

But it also highlighted yet another amazing use of Twitter. Firstly to all the peeps that messaged me to help and support me, then to all the peeps that suggested ideas to get me home, and then to the actual service from @tweetalondoncab, which delivered a great result.

So Its a massive high five to all involved with @tweetalondoncab. So if you ever are in need of a cab, you now know where to start looking.
