In my 4th personal Twitter hall of shame, I am going to highlight PG Tips Tea aka http://twitter.com/pgtipsusa PG Tips tea joined Twitter on 27th May 2010. On the PG Tips website they have stated that there are 150 million cups of tea drunk every day in England with 35 million of those delicious PG Tips. Wow thats a lot of tea. So you would imagine that their Twitter account would be awesome. It would have a great strategy, properly resourced, with tons of listening and then engagement. With that many people drinking tea every day, millions must be talking about it on Twitter. So what better way than to listen to them, and join in the conversation. This is their account. Yes folks in 4 months, they have managed to acquire a grand total of 25 followers and have sent out 24 tweets. I have searched around and I cannot find another Twitter account for them. I did find @pgtips but clearly this is not them. So they have not even secured their name.
I would love to hear from someone at PG Tips to tell me what has happened. Is their strategy to not be on Twitter, and if so why? I really would not understand that. Do they have other accounts that I could simply not find? That in itself is not great. Do they not have the proper resources to be effective with Twitter? Or perhaps they are not on Twitter at all, and this account is not an official account, again I would love to hear from them if that is the case.
I did visit their website and that was the Twitter account listed on there. Time for a strong brew I think.

Shame on PG Tips!
I must say, this post has got me thinking…. I wonder how the big brands like Cadbury, Nestle, Coco Cola et al are doing on the Twitter stakes? Also I’m about to take a look at the big supermarkets, Tesco and Sainsbury for example. I wonder what they are doing to engage and get feedback from their audience?
Keep up the good work Mark.
