Hi I’m Steve McComish, 41 year old dad of two, international air guitarist and MD at The London PR Agency, based in Soho in the centre of London.

I love all things net and would happily blog all day if I had the time, which I don’t, so Twitter is perfect for me. Updates take seconds so there is really no excuse not to add content every day.

I joined around a year ago using my real name without spacing @SteveMcComish  and quickly gathered 500 followers. I soon came to realise that to use the site effectively quality of followers was far more important than quantity so one evening I sat down and cut out the deadwood – shedding half my followers and half the people I was following too. Anyone who hadn’t tweeted for a month got cut as did anyone using the site to spam.

Like all things the more you put into Twitter the more you get out of it. As well as my own personal account @SteveMcComish the agency has its own Twitter account @LondonPRagency  and I’m encouraging my team to tweet too.

It’s been interesting helping our clients to use Twitter and we have won new business by seeing who follows our clients and by opening a dialogue with those followers through the site.

We have signed up clients including @OnceUponaBelt  directly through Twitter. I am also in talks with a US based company who contacted me through the site about a major PR account for them as they push into European markets.

In the past year Twitter has brought in business worth £five figures for us but if the US opportunity does come off that could easily become six figures. Not bad for a little blue bird. When the site went down recently I felt as if my right arm had been cut off.

That’s when I appreciated just how useful a tool Twitter has become.
