Every Friday on Twitter, you will see thousands of people sending out tweets that have the term #followfriday in the tweet. So what exactly is followfriday, and why should you join in, and why take the time to check it out…. 

What is followfriday? 

Followfriday began its life in Mid Jan 2009. It was started by Micah Baldwin It works on the idea that people on Twitter may not be sure who to follow. So what better way to find excellent people to follow on Twitter than those who have been recommended by others. 

So every Friday, the idea is that you think about who you are following on Twitter, that you would like to introduce to others. These may because they are providing excellent information, they are funny, interesting, amusing, or whatever you want.. 

So How Do I Join In? 

It is very simple to join in.. All you need to do is to make sure that somewhere within the tweet that you send out, you add the term – #followfriday, and the name of the person that you are recommending and why. 

So for example….. #followfriday: @markshaw  because he provides excellent help and support on Twitter. 

When you are taking part in #followfriday, try and recommend 1 person per message with an explanation why we may want to follow them. It makes it much easier for others to decide. 

Why is Follow Friday so Popular? 

It is really popular for several reasons.. 1) It is really easy to do, and takes little effort, 2) Everyone can take part, no matter what the size of their network, 3) its a nice feeling to recommend people to others that we like and trust…and 4) it is dead simple
